The ancient town of BARDEJOV is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful towns in Slovakia. It was inscribed into the List of the World Cultural Heritage of the UNESCO in 2000.

The oldest wirtten reference to the town dates back to the 1241. Historical center of Bardejov represents an unique complex of highly developed medieval city. The plan, builduings, and fortifications of Bardejov illustrate the urban complex that developed in Central Europe in the Middle Ages at major points along the great trade routes of the period. Its concept has been preserved up to the present days.
The houses in Bardejov were built in the first half of 15th century and there were about 500 of them at the time. The fortification system in Bardejov si among the most elaborate and best preserved mediaval fortification in Slovakia beacause of its significance, the system is enlisted in the European Fund of Cultural Heritage.
The town has become a popular destination for visitors from both Slovakia and abroad and in 1986 was the first town in the former Czechoslovakia to win a European prize: the ICOMOS gold medal for Conservation and Restoration of the Cultural Heritage.
City town hall from the 16thcentury stands in the center of the square. It is a unique and precious building, where funds of Šariš museum are placed today.
