Especially appealing are also the lakes (of glacier origin) – the tarns. Among 200 (tarns), the biggest one is Morské oko in Poland and Veľké Hincovo pleso in Slovakia, although the most well-known are Štrbské and Popradské pleso. Altogether with the Polish national park, Tatras have been inscribed in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves since 1993.
